How to prepare your castor oil pack
Note: This preparation needs only to be done once. Then you can simply store in a container or zip lock bag for the next use.
Castor oil does not go rancid, so the cloth can be re-used frequently and does not require refrigeration.
Method # 1
Cut a piece of cotton flannel to a size that will cover the indicated area (three layers thick). Pour castor oil on the cloth, not to the point of over saturation, place the cloth on liver, stomach, knee, back or affected area. Apply a heating pad or hot water bottle on top. Leave on that area for 20-30 minutes.
Method # 2
Apply the castor oil on the area of concern, wear an old T-shirt or pajamas and retire for the evening. The warmth and heat of the blankets will aid the castor oil absorption.
These methods can be done 3-4 times per week.
Good quality castor oil usually comes in a glass bottle.
How to use your castor oil pack
Lay down on a large towel or sheet to help catch any castor oil drops. Place the castor oil pack on the area to be treated. For example, for constipation or other digestive problems you’ll likely place it over your stomach area.
Place a small plastic sheet over the castor oil pack. This helps to heat it and press it against your skin.
You can place a hot water bottle or heating pad on top of the plastic for more heat if you wish. Make sure you don’t fall asleep while heating the castor oil pack as this can lead to burns or other injuries.
Leave the pack on for about 45 minutes to an hour.
Remove the pack and wipe the area clean with a warm damp towel.
You can store the castor oil pack in the container used to soak them. Cover and refrigerate. Reuse each castor oil pack up to 30 times.
Possible side effects Some people may be allergic to castor oil. It may cause a skin rash or reaction when used on the body. If you haven’t used a castor oil pack before, do a patch test: -Rub a few drops of castor oil into your skin and leave on for 24 hours.
-If you don’t have any reaction, a castor oil pack should be safe to use.
